Hasib,

Very Valid opinion. I know many people that have done that. I have not seen any problems with performance at all with Performance Advisor, and I was running it on a system that had performance problems.

I prefer using SQL native tools which are just enhanced for ease of use by the third party tools. I have used several 3rd party tools and after evaluation I found Idera SQLdm was nice enough since it had no agent installed on server as such avoiding any i/o overhead since most of the tools actually slow down the apps instead of helping them perform better.

Just my two cents.

Mary,

Hi I really liked the way that Performance Advisor kept it history and it was really easy to change between a historical mode and a live mode. From what I have used with Spotlight in the past there was an overhead in using the tool. Now I have not used spotlight recently so I can not speak to the overhead of it at this time. I hope that answers your question.

Thanks,
Chris

Hi Chris,

What was your reasoning for choosing SQL Sentry Performance Advisor over Questsoftware's Spotlight? Did you find one better than the other?

Thanks,
